TANZANITE, DECEMBER’S PRECIOUS GEMSTONE

December birthstone tanzanite, Tanzanite, December’s Precious Gemstone

Tanzanite, December’s birthstone, was one of the most fascinating discoveries in the field of 20th-century mineralogy.
The gemstone was discovered in 1962 in Tanzania, from which it takes its name, while the first and only deposit was discovered 5 years later in the Merelani Hills at the foot of Kilimanjaro.

In 1968, Tiffany launched tanzanite in the jewelry field, making it a highly desired and fashionable stone. Since then, the stone has gained increasing value, reaching costs of over $1,500 per carat.

Tanzanites characterized by an intense and velvety blue have a higher value than those with violet hues. What determines the stone’s value is saturation, whether it’s tanzanite or any other colored gemstone.

In 2007, the price of high-quality tanzanites experienced a surge, tripling in value, and has never declined since.
In 2018, Tanzania’s new President decided to delimit the mine by constructing a 23-kilometer wall to prevent smuggling.

The black market was indeed causing the loss of 40% of tanzanites, resulting in significant economic losses for the country.

Since then, the price has increased and is expected to continue rising in the coming years. Tanzania has total control over the number of stones extracted, which must meet demand alone to maintain consistent extraction and pricing. This allows tanzanite to preserve a fertile and lasting investment potential.

Spiritually, it is believed that the energy field created by tanzanite stimulates the three highest chakras, uniting “the higher mind” with intuition and communication.
Specifically, it is said that the vibration of the blue crystal typical of tanzanite can help open the fifth chakra, the throat chakra, allowing freer expression of thoughts and feelings. Moreover, it would help maintain our body’s health by balancing our energy centers.

The indigo variation of the precious stone provides the necessary energy to realign the Third Eye chakra, the center of awareness and primary regulator of the endocrine system.

Those who wear it notice they attract experiences that reflect their innermost desires, fears, and beliefs—the images that then take root in consciousness. Thus, the life you are living reflects exactly what you have thought.

Finally, we reach the crown, the seventh chakra, responsible for the proper functioning of the cerebral cortex and pineal gland. The violet color of tanzanite is associated with it, and it is thought to be where our highest forms of knowledge and spirituality reside. The gemstone allows us to intensify the connection between our body and the universe, dreams, inspiration, and destiny. When the crown chakra, the seventh, is in perfect balance, we see things as they are, know our position in the universe, and remain unperturbed by life’s obstacles and events.
Tanzanite harmonizes the heart chakra with the Third Eye, supporting the wearer in maintaining focus on compassion and understanding of others.
